Coccyx and pelvic pain are among the most distressing chronic pain syndromes. They often affect not only sitting and everyday activities, but also significantly impair overall physical and emotional well-being.
Many patients report long and frustrating treatment journeys involving multiple consultations without lasting improvement. Frequently, treatment is limited to injections or seating aids, while the underlying causes of the pain remain insufficiently addressed.
My Clinical Focus
For many years, I have specialized in the conservative treatment of coccyx and pelvic pain. Patients now travel from across Germany and neighboring countries specifically for this treatment. This demand highlights how frequently these conditions are underestimated or inadequately treated within standard medical care.
In most cases, the origin of symptoms is not the bone itself — neither the coccyx nor the bony pelvis.
Why Conventional Imaging Often Falls Short
Diagnostic imaging such as MRI or X-ray rarely provides decisive information for effective treatment. Questions like “Is the coccyx displaced?” or “Is there a pelvic misalignment?” often distract from the actual source of pain.
Clinical experience shows that symptoms usually arise from surrounding soft tissues, particularly:
-
muscles
-
tendons and ligaments
-
fascia
-
pelvic floor structures
-
gluteal muscles
-
the lower lumbar spine
A frequent cause is myofascial trigger points — small areas of localized muscle tension that may be located away from the site of pain yet still generate significant coccyx or pelvic symptoms.
My Therapeutic Approach
Treatment is individualized and holistic, always considering the interaction between musculoskeletal structures, fascia, the nervous system, and autonomic regulation.
Depending on clinical findings, therapy may include:
-
Manual and osteopathic techniques to release tissue tension and restrictions
-
Trigger point therapy, including dry needling when appropriate
-
Pelvic floor treatment
-
Osteopathic regulation of the autonomic nervous system
-
Adjunctive extracorporeal shockwave therapy when clinically indicated
All treatments are performed with the utmost care, respect, and only with the patient’s explicit consent. A companion may be present at all times if desired.
Treatment Duration and Expected Outcomes
Many patients experience noticeable symptom relief after one or two sessions. Typically, three to five treatments are sufficient to achieve sustained improvement or complete symptom resolution. When treatment is successful, symptoms usually do not recur.
Understanding Pain Holistically
Chronic pain affects not only the body but also the nervous system. Persistent pain can lead to heightened autonomic arousal, anxiety, and protective movement patterns that perpetuate symptoms.
For this reason, treatment may also include supportive conversations and autonomic stabilizing measures aimed at restoring bodily confidence and promoting overall regulation.
